The perfect way of aligning a skin depends on the individual as various techniques work better from person to person. Here are two we recommend.
Face-up Method (works better for most cases)
- Wash your hands before starting. Natural oils in your skin can damage the adhesive backing.
- Use a soft cotton or microfiber cloth and nothing more aggressive than water to clean the device.
- Place the device on a clean, flat working surface with the screen facing up.
- Look over the skin to familiarize yourself with the pieces so you know which goes where.
- Remove the skin from its backing and looking straight down, carefully lower the skin onto the device, all the time aligning the screen and/or clickwheel/buttons by sight.
- Once the skin touches the device and bonds, lift up the device and press with your finger to bond the skin to the device.
Face-down Method (works for skins with two piece designs)
- Wash your hands before starting. Natural oils in your skin can damage the adhesive backing.
- Use a soft cotton or microfiber cloth and nothing more aggressive than water to clean the device.
- Remove the Skin from its backing and lay it, adhesive side up on a clean, flat surface in front of you.
- Holding the device face-down with both hands, looking straight down, carefully lower the device onto the skin, all the time aligning it by sight.
- Once the device touches the skin and bonds, lift it up and press with your finger to bond the skin to the device.
- You can repeat this with the back, but the back is usually easy enough to install without this method, as the curved edges (eg, on the iPhone) give you some room to play.
When you are certain that the Skin has been positioned correctly, press it down firmly with your fingers, ensuring that the edges are firmly pasted. If you come across any air bubbles or wrinkles during the process, simply run your finger over them and the channeled adhesive will allow the bubbles to be pressed out.
The application process is extremely easy but please be careful when you are removing the Skin to reposition the alignment. Yanking or pulling too hard can stretch and damage the Skin. Likewise, be careful not to separate the laminate from the Skin as it is there to protect the Skin and your device.
